Support The Capilano Review

The Capilano Review uniquely sits at the intersection of writing and art, and is one of British Columbia’s foremost art magazines. Each print and digital issue of The Capilano Review features up to 160 pages of previously unpublished thought-provoking poetry, fiction, essays, interviews, art, and criticism by emerging and established artists and writers working at the forefronts of their fields. The Capilano Review takes pride in publishing experimental, boundary-pushing, interdisciplinary works that struggle to find publication elsewhere.

In addition to producing our biannual publication, The Capilano Review enjoys engaging community and offering opportunities for education and mentorship. We host readings, workshops, an annual Writer-in-Residence program – connecting audiences with an established writer from beyond Vancouver – and offer at least one internship each year. We are one of very few organizations in the city that continues to program these kinds of literary presentations and events, bringing to life all the ways in which literature exists off the page, in conversation with community. The Capilano Review supports emerging and established writers and artists to foster a vibrant local and national creative community and allow future generations of artists and writers to emerge.

Each year, more Canadian art and literary magazines either close or move online, and as a foremost publication of contemporary visual arts discourse in BC and Canada, we are committed to continuing to distribute full-colour print issues that honour the work of our contributors. We are dedicated to offering both emerging and established writers and artists a meaningful and increasingly rare opportunity to publish their work. We take seriously the need to provide fair wages to those working in the cultural industry, even as production costs continue to rise. One-time and ongoing donations will make an essential difference in sustaining our beloved art and literary publication in the years to come.

We are seeking to raise $10,000 by December 20, 2025 in order to continue this exciting work throughout 2026. Support The Capilano Review by making a donation today.

When you donate to The Capilano Review, your contribution goes directly to the people and materials that sustain our non-profit publication and associated public programming.

This includes:

  • Paying living wages to our small team of part-time editorial staff.
  • Paying CARFAC (the national minimum standard for paying artists) or higher rates to the artists and writers with whom we collaborate.
  • Supporting design and printing costs for our high-quality, full-colour, carefully-bound print issues.
  • Supporting postage costs to ensure our magazine and the work of artists and writers reaches readers locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Supporting the cost of digitizing each issue, making digital subscriptions available to individuals and institutional libraries.

Each issue of The Capilano Review costs over $105,799 in total editorial, staff and production costs to produce and distribute. We significantly subsidize our subscription rates in order to keep our publication accessible to a wide audience. Your financial contribution can help us cover the difference, so we can continue placing innovating art and literature in the hands of an eager community.
