Malena Szlam

Malena Szlam is a Chilean filmmaker and visual artist based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal. Her work explores the connections between humans and the natural world, engaging with themes of geopolitics, ecology, and perception. Working with analogue film, she also collaborates with scientists and composers to create immersive soundscapes. Her films have screened at MoMA, TIFF, and IFFR. Her work has been exhibited at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark), and featured in Artforum, e-flux, and Film Comment. In 2025, she was longlisted for the Sobey Art Award, and her work is included in the MoMA’s permanent collection.
