LIV SYDNEY, born in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, grew up in a supportive Inuvialuit
household, with her Nanuk playing a key role in shaping her values. As a teen, she
discovered a passion for creating, especially beading and painting. Encouraged by her
community, Liv pursued an education at OCAD University in Toronto, supported by
several bursaries. Now in her third year of the Indigenous Visual Culture program, Liv's
current creative practice focuses on hand sewing, printmaking, and painting as a way to
reconnect with her culture and traditions.
