Johannes Bobrowski

JOHANNES BOBROWSKI was born in l917 in Tilsit, East Prussia. Studied art history. Served as a soldier from 1939 until his release ten years later from a Russian prisoner of war camp. Noted for his attempt to reconcile the German heritage with that of its neighbors to the east, and for his sensitive portrayal of the landscape and history of the East European borderlands. Died in 1956 in East Berlin.1.2
